WHAT WILL BE TAUGHT IN THE DIVEMASTER COURSE

KNOWLEDGE DEVELOPMENT





Divemaster curriculum



You can study independently using the PADI Divemaster Manual and Video or through Divemaster eLearning. Depending on where you do your Divemaster course, some knowledge development may consist of independent study, instructor led presentations and discussions or a combination of both. All the knowledge development for the Divemaster course is available on an eLearning platform as well.


You will also need to prepare an emergency assistance plan which includes all relevant information to manage a scuba diving accident.



WATERSKILLS DEVELOPMENT





5 Waterskills development sessions



  1. 400 meter swim
  2. 15 minute tread water
  3. 800 meter snorkel swim
  4. 100 meter tired diver tow
  5. Equipment exchange with a buddy underwater. This used to be done whilst buddy breathing but due to Covid is now done whilst neutrally buoyant.


RESCUE





Rescue exercise 7



Dealing with an unconscious diver at the surface. In particular we are looking for:


  • The approach, calling out to the diver
  • Turn the diver over onto their back
  • Establishing positive buoyancy for the victim and yourself
  • Removing masks, opening the airway and establishing if the victim is breathing
  • Calling for help
  • Administering 2 rescue breaths followed by one breath every 5 seconds
  • Towing the diver to the boat or shore whilst removing yours and the victims equipment and continuously administering rescue breaths every 5 seconds.


PRACTICAL SKILLS





5 Practical skills to complete



  • Dive site set up and management - learn how to set up a dive site or boat for customers to come diving
  • Mapping project - Create a dive site map detailed enough to be used for a dive site briefing
  • Dive briefing - Conduct a dive site briefing detailed enough for divers to understand the features of the particular dive site
  • Search and recovery scenario - Search using various compass navigation search patters and rig and lift an object to the surface using a lift bag
  • Deep dive scenario - Set up emergency equipment at 5 meters, perform a safety stop, navigate a reciprocal heading




DIVEMASTER WORKSHOPS





There are 5 workshops conducted in the Divemaster course



  • Workshop 1 - Reactivate. This program is designed for divers who have not dived in a while and will refresh their diving skills with a Divemaster prior to going on a dive.
  • Workshop 2 - Skin Diver. This program is designed to teach people how to skin dive.
  • Workshop 3 - Discover Scuba Diving in confined water. This program is designed as an introduction to scuba diving to get a taste of what scuba diving is all about.
  • Workshop 4 - Discover Scuba Diving in open water. As above but this time the student is experiencing scuba diving in the open water such as an ocean
  • Workshop 5 - Discover Local Diving. This program is designed for the recreational diver who has never been at a particular dive site. As a Divemaster you will guide certified divers on dives in your local area.




PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT





4 practical assessments on working with students and divers



As a divemaster you may assist a PADI Openwater Scuba Instructor in teaching openwater courses or any continuing educational courses. You may also lead or guide certified divers in your local area. These assessments are designed to teach you the skills required for these tasks


  • Openwater students in confined water
  • Openwater students in open water
  • Continuing education courses in open water
  • Certified divers in open water
